Dar es Salaam, November 2025
It’s official — and unbelievable. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been declared winner of Tanzania’s general election with a jaw-dropping 98 percent of the vote. Nearly 32 million ballots were reportedly cast on Wednesday, even as chaos and protests filled the streets.
The “Win” That Shocked East Africa
Many are calling it the joke of the year across East Africa. Why? Because Samia was essentially running against herself. There were no real challengers, yet the results show a near-perfect sweep — something that’s left both citizens and observers in disbelief.

The biggest question on everyone’s lips: who actually voted, and where?
While most of the country was out protesting, videos on social media allegedly show poll supervisors stuffing ballot boxes, claiming they were instructed that “Samia must win.”
Tanzania Still in Turmoil
Despite the announcement, crowds are still on the streets. Many Tanzanians refuse to recognize the outcome, saying the election was nothing more than theatre. Reports of violence and arrests continue to surface, while the government maintains strict control over communication networks.
Adding fuel to the fire, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, congratulated Samia on her “victory” and praised the AU’s commitment to democracy and stability.
But critics are asking: where exactly is that democracy and stability in Tanzania right now?

And perhaps most disturbingly, no one is addressing the deaths of innocent citizens or the ongoing internet shutdown that has plunged the nation into silence.
📍 Original East Take
Another day, another twist in East African politics — where elections look more like stage shows than democracy. The world is watching, but Tanzanians are still fighting to be heard.
